It’s difficult to deny how in some way, things we hear from others influence our own thoughts. I have been trying to digest a few of them lately. Added to all the confusion they have caused in my mind, this morning I woke with a voice that has been repeating itself all day;
“If you don’t know where to go, follow the crowd. But, if you do know where to go and how to get there; ignore the crowd”.
I wasn’t able to pay attention to my words until late this evening. Sitting at a Pub table watching people react to all kind of circumstances, made me stop and analyze exactly what my rebellious side had to tell me.
“That’s it!” It was exactly what my mind was telling me; to listen to myself.
“I do! I do! I really do believe I know what I am doing and where I want to go”. That is an important, glorious stage of getting on in life: being confident in your own steps and decisions.
You can test it yourself – just look for signs of happiness in your daily routine.
So then I moved forward with my analysis:
If we are always told how unique and special each one of us are; why in the world would people want us to behave and perform similarly to each other?!?
It just does not make sense!
After going through all this quick thinking and writing to Autêntica, my mind seemed silent. Amusing itself with the thought that no matter what happens in my future; I shall say as Sinatra has already said:
“I did it my way”.

Hi there !
A few days
ago, I had the pleasant visit of my friend Rachel here in London. It was the end of July and we were lucky enough to have gorgeous weather. In one of our early nights out we, as usual, were at my neighborhood PUB having an Amstel, enjoying the conversation and atmosphere when Rachel suddenly popped up with a challenge - “If humans are all humans, why don’t you write for Autêntica?! We are from different countries, I know, but let’s see how different we really are”.
Rachel and I are two very alike women. We are both independent, hard workers, like to have fun, curious about life and especially about people. What this means is that we are always interested in knowledge as well as life itself. As I first thought about it, it sounded crazy. How could I be writing in English, to a Portuguese culture?! How would I except Brazilians to understand an overseas point of view?!
Then it came to me: “I guess that is exactly what this is all about – as good as I know my dear friend Rachel; she is expecting my very true words and natural way of seeing life – authentic thoughts”. So I agreed.
Here I am, a normal modern woman, with desires and doubts, living a day at a time, trying my best for something new, trying to make a difference in something or to someone. I guess that is what life is all about - being happy – making others happy - doing your part as you seek for the best part of all!

Olá!
Há alguns dias, recebi a prazerosa visita da minha amiga Rachel aqui em Londres. Era final de Julho e nós tivemos sorte da cidades estar com um clima maravilhoso. Em uma de nossas saídas, cedo da noite como sempre, nós estávamos no PUB do meu bairro, tomando uma cerveja Amstel e aproveitando uma boa conversa e o ambiente do lugar. Quando de repente a Rachel surgiu com um desafio: “Se seres humanos são seres humanos, por que você não escreve para Autêntica?! Eu sei que somos de países diferentes, mas vamos ver o quanto verdadeiramente diferente nós somos”.
Rachel e eu somos mulheres muito parecidas. Nós duas somos independentes, trabalhadoras, gostamos de nos divertir, somos curiosas sobre a vida, e, especialmente, gostamos de estar com pessoas. O que significa que estamos sempre interessadas em conhecimento assim como na vida em si.
Quando primeiro pensei sobre o convite, pareceu loucura. Como eu poderia escrever em inglês para uma cultura de língua portuguesa?! Como que eu poderei esperar que Brasileiros entendam um ponto de vista internacional?!
Cheguei à conclusão: “É exatamente sobre isso! – da forma que conheço bem minha querida amiga Rachel; ela está esperando palavras muito verdadeiras, e minha forma natural de ver a vida – Pensamentos autênticos”. Então, concordei.
Aqui estou. Uma mulher moderna, normal, com desejos e dúvidas. Vivendo um dia de cada vez. Tentando o meu melhor por coisas novas, fazer a diferença em alguma coisa ou para alguém. Acredito que é disso que a vida se trata. Ser feliz - fazer os outros felizes! Fazer sua parte e buscar o melhor em tudo!
